Human Rights Campaign and GOPROUD go after pro-life/pro-marriage attorney

Continuing their bullying campaign against anyone who believes marriage is between one man and one woman the Human Rights Campaign  (HRC) is now going after law firm Foley & Lardner LLP for having the gall to have in their employ an attorney who represents and supports pro-family organizations.  Cleta Mitchell, attorney extraordinaire, is one of those “must knows” if you are a conservative because of her straight forward attitude as well as her vast knowledge of the legal field, especially campaign law.  Her latest affront according to the Human Rights Campaign?  She recently registered as a lobbyist for the National Organization for Marriage in Minnesota, where a marriage constitutional amendment will be on the ballot in 2012.  For this HRC thinks she should be unemployable.

This isn’t the first time HRC has used bullying tactics to intimidate lawyers for taking on clients who defend marriage.  Earlier this year they found success in bullying law firm King and Spalding to drop the U.S. Congress as one of their clients simply because Congress was defending the Defense of Marriage Act, the bipartisan legislation that seeks to protect marriage at the federal level.  This bullying was criticized from the right and the left, and when attorney Paul Clement resigned in protest he was applauded as a hero of the law.

What was somewhat, but not too much, unusual in this case was that HRC is being applauded for their actions by GOPROUD, the liberal Republican homosexual group that counts Grover Norquist as one of their supporters.  Soon after the story broke the two heads of GOPROUD happily tweeted the news:

We’ve been under attack for two years from @FoleyandLardner. Glad to see that finally they have a price to pay metroweekly.com/poliglot/2011/…

Considering the past history of GOPROUD and Cleta Mitchell (earlier this year GOPROUD head Chris Barron called Cleta a “nasty bigot” because of her pro-family views) their glee over HRC’s attack should surprise few conservatives, but hopefully educate some in the Republican Party.
